About Dr Wisam Alwan

Dr. Wisam Alwan is a Consultant Dermatologist at the renowned St John’s Institute of Dermatology, part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.

He serves as the clinical lead for children’s dermatology, bringing wide ranging expertise in both paediatric and adult skin conditions. His practice is driven by a holistic, patient-centred approach and he is a keen advocate of evidence-based medicine.

Dr. Alwan recently completed a PhD in Immunology at King’s College London, where his research explored the role of the skin microbiome in psoriasis and eczema.

His work was supported by leading institutions including the Medical Research Council, British Association of Dermatologists, and the British Skin Foundation.

His academic achievements are complemented by a strong interest in medical education—he holds a postgraduate certificate in clinical education and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, actively mentoring trainee dermatologists as an educational supervisor.

Throughout his career, Dr. Alwan has earned recognition for academic excellence and research innovation, including prestigious awards from the British Society of Investigative Dermatology and Royal Society of Medicine. His clinical interests include inflammatory skin diseases and skin infections, with a special focus on advancing dermatological care for children.
